On October 15, 2021, the Uzbek-Australian seminar on “Reforms in water resources management” was held at the Information, Analytical and Resource Center of the Ministry of Water Resources. It was attended by representatives and specialists of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Australian company “FORTESCUE FUTURE INDUSTRIES”. Scientists, researchers from Australia and specialists of basin irrigation systems departments of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Karakalpakstan also took part in the online mode.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, First Deputy Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan Azimjon Nazarov noted that despite the fact that Uzbekistan and Australia are thousands of kilometers away, they have a lot in common in terms of the use and effective management of water resources. Australia, located in an area with a water shortage, has come a long way in reforming the industry over the next thirty years and has accumulated a lot of experience. In particular, it strives to apply the most advanced and innovative methods of management and use of water resources.
The purpose of the seminar is to study Australia's experience in the field of water management, introduce the most important and effective achievements, as well as familiarize foreign specialists with the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Julia Shuttleward, head of the Australian company “FORTESCUE FUTURE INDUSTRIES”, noted that the goal of this company is to develop the use of alternative energy sources such as wind, water and solar, as well as to help reduce the effects of global warming on the planet. He expressed readiness for major changes in such areas as strengthening ties between Australia and Uzbekistan in the water sector, launching new promising projects and improving the skills of personnel.
At the seminar, within the framework of the concept and strategy, reforms in the management of water resources in our country, their main directions, and the results achieved were discussed. The main aspects of cooperation with Australia are defined.
